[!bible]- Jonah 1:1-17 !Jonah 1#1..17

The first 3 verse are a direct command to Jonah.

Prophets tend to have more money. He basically paid for the whole boat. Sin will always cause us to pay in more ways than one.

God never gives up on His purpose or his people

[!bible] Romans 11:29 !Rom 11#29

God wrath are not our wrath. Jonah disobedient provokes God wrath, and so does ours. cf 4-5

OT would be called wrath while NT would more be called discipline! God will display his wrath to bring attention to his intentions for us to do.

[!bible] Hebrews 12:5-6 !Heb 12#5..6

There is no joy outside of God's calling.

hosea 8:7 !Hos 8#7

This is about the conse.... of theirs actions.

vv 5-8

God is sovereign over all, even the lots.

Our sins impact those around us! The sailors had nothing to do with Jonah and Nineveh and look what was about to happen to them. We will sin and convince ourselves that it does not effect anyone around us. Example of Husbands treat your wife like Christ loves the church. When we don't believe that then we say it doesn't effect anyone. But later when kids come along they see that and then later on the kids will treat their spouses the same. And one persons sins will continue to grow to all those around us.

When you speak the name of Christ but don't live the name of Christ, is dangerous! Jonah should know this the best out of all of them. He is a prophet. He is used to hearing the Lord and seeing Him work exactly as He said He would.

Fear the Lord 9-16

We don't see Jonah praying in this chapter!

He says I fear the Lord but does not actually show it.

Thought: Jonah is as worthless as the cargo because he was running from God.

He claims he fear God but his actions say otherwise.

See what change in the sailors when they see Gods wrath against jonah cf 10 & 16

pilip 4:16??? #TODO

Hebrews 12:25, 28-29 #TODO We have to come to God with reverence and fear

!Rom 11#19..20

Fear serves as a preservative.

God is merciful to us! As soon as the sailors threw Jonah the seas calmed. He had mercy for them even though they had nothing to do with Jonah choices.
