> [!Bible]- [Mark 15:16-32 - ESV](https://bolls.life/ESV/41/15/)
> 16. And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor's headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion.
> 17. And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him.
> 18. And they began to salute him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
> 19. And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him.
> 20. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.
> 21. And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.
> 22. And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull).
> 23. And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.
> 24. And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.
> 25. And it was the third hour when they crucified him.
> 26. And the inscription of the charge against him read, “The King of the Jews.”
> 27. And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.
> 29. And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,
> 30. save yourself, and come down from the cross!”
> 31. So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself.
> 32. Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.
In culture today the cross has become one of the most watered down symbol in modern culture. The smallest inconvenience we say to ourselves "We are bearing our cross".
One thing we don't talk about as much is the humiliation that Jesus endured.
## 16 - 20
600 men
Spitting is one of the most disrespectful things you can do
## 21- 25
Jesus may have only carried the horizontal beam
Rufus was named to point to other people who would have witnessed the crucifixion.
It took place at highway to make a
wine and myrrh was pain killer but did not partake, he experienced it all.
Crucifixion was the worst capital punishment that Rome had.
Why were the details withheld. All the people of the day knew the details. And the gospel writers were not concerned about the details how the suffering occurred but who suffered.
You die by suffocation when you are crucified. To breath you have to push and pull up against your hands and feet. Because of all the wounds you would have bug and birds picking at all the wounds.
The cross would not have been high up but at eye level so people could see and mock.
## 26-32
8 prophecy was fulfilled in chapter 15 of mark.
#TODO get from Raymond
"Come down so we may see and believe"... Yet for all that he was able to do they were blind to his authority. ==We believe because He stayed==
## Summary
1. Jesus was ridiculed and ashamed in our place.
1. We mock Christ every day by our actions and we should be ashamed and humiliated as Christ was. But he took our place
2. Jesus was beaten brutalized and tortured in our place
1. He was forced to carry it against his freshly scourged and beaten body
3. Jesus chose to save us instead of himself
1. All he had to do was say one word to show all who He really was.
4. We were bought with a price
1. Galatians 3:13
2. Romans 5:3???
3. see Raymond
4. Jesus paid the price for ***me***
Let keep our eyes always focused on cross.
