He complains of contemptuous treatment by an ambitious Diotrephes, (<a class="bibleref" title="3John.1.9,3John.1.10" href="/passage/?search=3John.1.9,3John.1.10"><span class="bibleref" title="3John.1.9">3 John 1:9</span>, <span class="bibleref" title="3John.1.10">10</span></a>), recommends Demetrius, (<a class="bibleref" title="3John.1.12" href="/passage/?search=3John.1.12">3 John 1:12</a>), and expresses his hope of visiting Gaius shortly, <a class="bibleref" title="3John.1.13,3John.1.14" href="/passage/?search=3John.1.13,3John.1.14"><span class="bibleref" title="3John.1.13">3 John 1:13</span>, <span class="bibleref" title="3John.1.14">14</span></a>.</p>
