Fence sitters are on shaky ground that will fall to one side or the other!

Your passions are sin and love with the world.

When we are hostile to others it shows that we are showing hostility to God!

There more we conform to this world the more we are committing adultery to God.

There is a danger when you cheat on God. James is using vivid imagery to show that fence sitting is not actually that. It causes great pain to the Lord.

v5: See exodus, God says he is a jealous for us.
|
|
|
|
God's jealousy is one the is like a husband's longing for his wife's affection.
|
|
|
|
v8-10 are all here to show us how to draw near to God
|
|
|
|
- Resist the devil
|
|
- Stop trusting in worldly wisdom
|
|
- Resit forceably!
|
|
- Draw near and he will draw near to you
|
|
- seek God repentantly!
|
|
- Psalm 51!
|
|
- Pursue purity!
|
|
- Do the right thing but also with the right heart.
|
|
- Hands and mind!
|
|
- Mourn
|
|
- Take your sin ***very*** seriously!
|
|
- the world does not see sin as a big deal
|
|
- Our sin should bring us sorrow
|
|
- when was the last time we grieved over our sin to God?
|
|
- Humble
|
|
- When you are humble God will lift you up.
|
|
- We dont have to worry about making ourselves feel better.
|
|
- We wont see the approval of the world.
|
|
